Epcot Food & Wine Festival 2010 – Droolius Highlights

The year has quickly come to a close and 2010 has been a great one. Before we end the year we want to share some of our experiences at the 15th Annual Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. I was able to go twice this year with friends and definitely enjoyed the food. Wine and beer was not so much of a focus, maybe I will leave that for 2011 Epcot Food & Wine festival because we will be back! For now here’s the highlights from this year’s festival of some food, drinks, and a “Eat to the Beat” concert with Boyz II Men.

South Korea – Lettuce Wraps with Roast Pork and Kimchi Slaw
Korean food is new this year and this lettuce wrap was really tasty and refreshing. It was still hot the first weekend of the festival and this definitely helped as a great snack and keeping fresh.

South Korea – Barbecue Short Rib with Steamed Rice and Cucumber Kimchi
This was a decent item that had a kick of spice in the sauce, a tad sweeter than expected, and not traditional Korean short ribs aka Kalbi.

South Korea – Honey Ginger Tea
This tea was good, in a unique way. Had a spice to it yet it was cold and refreshing. Similar to a cinnamon spice bite but with ginger.

Belgium – Freshly Baked Waffles with Berry Compote and Whipped Cream
These waffles were great! Fluffy inside, crispy outside, topped with a warm compote that wasn’t too sweet.

Canada – Maple Glazed Salmon with Lentil Salad
This was well balanced. The salmon flavor was toned down with a slightly sweet sauce and the hearty lentils.

Singapore – Braised Beef Rendang with Jasmine Rice
This was a surprise and probably my favorite of this year’s festival! Soft tender beef with a nutty undertone and bits of toasted coconut that did not overpower the dish, just complimented it with flavor. A touch of sweet but again was not too much. Even non-coconut fans liked the dish (my friends) and were pleasantly surprised.

South Africa – Flavors of Africa – salad, bread and spreads

Puerto Rico – Asopao de Pollo (Chicken Soup with Rice)

Australia – Seared Barramundi with Blistered Cherry Tomatoes Arugula, and Lemon Oil

Brewer’s Collection – a tasting of 6 beers
We tasted 6 of 8 beers offered at this kiosk of beers. Not sure which one’s are which in this picture but they were all consumed and set the tone for the day.

United States – Bison Chili with Wild Mushrooms, Cabernet, and Pepper Jack Cheese
This was a good cup of chili. Very hearty, filling, and tasted good. Not too gamey as I expected the bison to be, rather light in flavor and texture was like regular ground beef.

Brazil – Shrimp Stew with Coconut and Lime

Ireland – Warm Chocolate Lava Cake with Baileys Irish Cream Ganache

Poland – Kielbasa and Potato Pierogies with Caramelized Onions and Sour Cream

France – Escargots Persillade en Brioche
One of my favorites because it tastes so good. Who doesn’t like buttery garlic snails?

Morocco – Iced Mint Tea
A cool refreshing drink! I always grab a few cups every year.

Australia – Grilled Lamp Chop with Roasted Potato Salad and Red Wine Reduction

Spain – Serrano Ham, Chorizo, Manchego, Olives, and Tomato Bread

Greece – Spanakopita
One of the yearly favorites. Crispy buttery phyllo dough filled with tasty spinach and feta cheese.

New Zealand – Lamb Slider with Tomato Chutney

Argentina – Grilled Beef Skewer with Chimichurri Sauce and Boniato Puree
This is one of my all time favorites. I love the chimichurri sauce on the tender grilled skewers, so delicious and a punch of flavor!

Canada – Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup
My favorite every year! Words cannot explain the cheesey bacony goodness here! Made of bacon, cheddar cheese, mirepoix of vegetables (onion, carrot and celery) and Moosehead Beer – all together combines into a delicious scrumptious savory rich treat. Easily I consume 3-4 cups of soup every trip! Yes that’s how much I love this soup!

“Eat to the Beat” concert with Boyz II Men

This was a great concert performance by Boyz II Men. I saw them live in Vegas in the early 90’s and seeing them years later shows how great performers they are. It was like they hadn’t change performing wise. They sang many of their infamous hit songs, performed some old school 90’s dance moves, and interacted with the crowd very well. The concert brought back many nostalgic memories of youth and the entire crowd was on their feet singing. Definitely a great show performed by these great artists!

Thank you Boyz II Men for a great show. Hope to see you back again next year!
