Authentic Irish Celebration at Mighty St. Patrick’s Festival at Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant at Disney Springs

When celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, forget eating cabbage and corned beef or drinking green beer. Those are not authentic or traditional Irish food or drinks to celebrate Saint Patrick’s day. Instead, celebrate like the Irish at the Mighty St. Patrick’s Festival at Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant at Disney Springs. The Mighty Festival just started on Friday, March 11th and runs for seven days until the big St. Patrick’s Day celebration on Thursday, March 17, 2016. Plenty of time to drink pints of Guinness, eat authentic Irish food and experience live music entertainment and dancers straight from Ireland.   (click image to enlarge) The menu features cuisine by Irish celebrity chef and PBS/Create TV personality Kevin Dundon. Last year I shared my experience from Ireland on our Raglan Road Trip with Chef Kevin. Experiencing the way he creates Irish classics with a modern twist translates into the Irish menu at Raglan Road and is a must try during the Mighty St. Patrick’s Festival. The dinner menu features a special dish, loin of bacon and …

Urbain 40 American Brasserie & Lounge in Orlando, FL

Urbain 40 American Brasserie is one of the newest restaurants in Orlando and it has quickly made its mark to be one of the new must-try dining destinations in the area. The theme of Urbain 40 is the 1940’s era, from the atmosphere to the hand-crafted cocktails, with live music from the Big Band era being performed. The interior is classy, the ambiance is approachable and welcoming, and it gives a nod to Florida in the decor. The food is American cuisine with French influences by Chef Jean-Stephane Poinard, a native of Lyon, France. The menu features a range of meat and seafood dishes, with lunch and dinner currently being offered. A brunch and late night menu are in the works.   (click image to enlarge) Elderflower Martini The lounge at Urbain 40 specializes in cocktails, from classics like an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan, to creative “Big City Cocktails.” That evening we sampled two specialty cocktails, a Cucumber Mint Gimlet and the Elderflower Martini.   (click image to enlarge) Truffled Mushroom – Roasted Garlic …

Premium Japanese Wagyu beef is a delicacy that is making its way to the U.S. and the Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort is debuting a special grade of Matsusaka beef today. Available at Capa Steakhouse, a special tasting menu called “From Matsusaka with Love” features a three course menu for two guests. This special menu is offered from February 10 to 15, 2016 and it’s just in time for Valentine’s Day. If you’re looking for special dining plans, this would be a good one to experience. Matsusaka beef from Japan is officially being introduced to the U.S. market with this menu.   (click image to enlarge) We were invited to sample what many call the best wagyu (Japanese beef) in the world. This beef was flown in from the Matsusaka region of Mie Prefecture, Japan. It is ranked number 1 because the melting point of the fat is very low, and it has the highest quality of rich marbling. The sashi is the white parts of fat in the meat that …

Droolius’ Top 25 Food & Most Memorable Meals in 2015

Keeping up with my yearly tradition, this is my Top 25 list of food and most memorable meals in 2015. The year flew by and switching from freelance work to being in the office definitely was a change for me and limited my time for culinary travel. I was still able to travel a little, visiting Atlanta, Las Vegas, and Miami, along with my first trip to Ireland. My trip to the Philippines was a short one for a family emergency. Regardless, I made the best of each travel opportunity and my favorite meals are listed below. Note: Photos are in the order of when the food was eaten, not by rank.   (click image to enlarge) • Chicken & Waffle Plate with sweet potato waffles, miso butter, maple syrup, and 2 pieces of fried chicken (safe & spicy heat) + side of Kimchi Coleslaw at Bad Bird, Hole in the Wall, Century Mall in Makati, Philippines. It’s great to see new restaurants and food concepts open up in the Philippines. One of the places …

Morimoto Asia Opens at Disney Springs with Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto – Video & Photos

The Orlando restaurant scene just stepped up its game with the grand opening of Morimoto Asia at Disney Springs. Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto is evolving his skills as a restaurateur by opening his first pan-Asian dining experience at Morimoto Asia. This restaurant concept is a collaboration between Chef Morimoto and the Patina Restaurant Group, showcasing flavors from across Asia with an emphasis on China, Japan, Korea, and Thailand.   (click image to enlarge) It isn’t a celebration unless Chef Morimoto shares a sake toast with the crowd. He asks everyone to say kanpai (乾杯) which means “empty cup.”   (click image to enlarge) The ambiance and decor of Morimoto Asia really transformed what used to be Mannequins and 8-Trax.   (click image to enlarge) The orange chicken was lightly battered and not overly sweet. It was nice to experience such a popular dish prepared with influences seen in Japanese cuisine.   (click image to enlarge) Morimoto’s staff presented a 100 pound tuna to the crowd.   (click image to enlarge) Morimoto demonstrates his carving technique …

Droolius 5 Year Blog Anniversary

It’s hard to believe that I started this food blog five years ago and it has been quite the experience in eating food, traveling for food, and learning about food in different cultures. From watching subtitled episodes of Iron Chef in Japan to various cooking shows and chef competitions, I’ve been able to discover the food I’ve seen on TV, travel to some of the destinations, and even meet some of my food heroes (that sounds like a future blog post). I’m very thankful for where this blog has taken me and I always celebrate every blog anniversary with food. To continue my yearly tradition I wanted something that I have not done in the past. I needed five of some type of food that would look great in a photo and something we would enjoy eating. So here’s what I came up with: five scoops of gelato stacked high. The results were better than what I imagined. Plus, it’s something fun to celebrate my actual birthday!   click to enlarge Celebrating in this unique …
