Authentic Irish Celebration at Mighty St. Patrick’s Festival at Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant at Disney Springs

When celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, forget eating cabbage and corned beef or drinking green beer. Those are not authentic or traditional Irish food or drinks to celebrate Saint Patrick’s day. Instead, celebrate like the Irish at the Mighty St. Patrick’s Festival at Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant at Disney Springs. The Mighty Festival just started on Friday, March 11th and runs for seven days until the big St. Patrick’s Day celebration on Thursday, March 17, 2016. Plenty of time to drink pints of Guinness, eat authentic Irish food and experience live music entertainment and dancers straight from Ireland.   (click image to enlarge) The menu features cuisine by Irish celebrity chef and PBS/Create TV personality Kevin Dundon. Last year I shared my experience from Ireland on our Raglan Road Trip with Chef Kevin. Experiencing the way he creates Irish classics with a modern twist translates into the Irish menu at Raglan Road and is a must try during the Mighty St. Patrick’s Festival. The dinner menu features a special dish, loin of bacon and …

Urbain 40 American Brasserie & Lounge in Orlando, FL

Urbain 40 American Brasserie is one of the newest restaurants in Orlando and it has quickly made its mark to be one of the new must-try dining destinations in the area. The theme of Urbain 40 is the 1940’s era, from the atmosphere to the hand-crafted cocktails, with live music from the Big Band era being performed. The interior is classy, the ambiance is approachable and welcoming, and it gives a nod to Florida in the decor. The food is American cuisine with French influences by Chef Jean-Stephane Poinard, a native of Lyon, France. The menu features a range of meat and seafood dishes, with lunch and dinner currently being offered. A brunch and late night menu are in the works.   (click image to enlarge) I attended a dinner with a group of local media and experienced some of the cocktails, food, and entertainment. The cocktails were refreshing and the dessert alone would be worth visiting for. Each plate of food had good savory flavors, very balanced, with a touch of finesse. I took …

Droolius’ Top 25 Food & Most Memorable Meals in 2015

Keeping up with my yearly tradition, this is my Top 25 list of food and most memorable meals in 2015. The year flew by and switching from freelance work to being in the office definitely was a change for me and limited my time for culinary travel. I was still able to travel a little, visiting Atlanta, Las Vegas, and Miami, along with my first trip to Ireland. My trip to the Philippines was a short one for a family emergency. Regardless, I made the best of each travel opportunity and my favorite meals are listed below. Note: Photos are in the order of when the food was eaten, not by rank.   (click image to enlarge) • Uni, toro tuna, and more uni at Sushi & Seoul on the Roll food truck. I started 2015 by eating once a week at the Sushi & Seoul on the Roll food truck, which was parked on Monday nights at The Imperial at Washburn Imports (Lake Ivanhoe area) in Orlando, FL. This was Chef Al’s “creative night” …

Droolius 5 Year Blog Anniversary

It’s hard to believe that I started this food blog five years ago and it has been quite the experience in eating food, traveling for food, and learning about food in different cultures. From watching subtitled episodes of Iron Chef in Japan to various cooking shows and chef competitions, I’ve been able to discover the food I’ve seen on TV, travel to some of the destinations, and even meet some of my food heroes (that sounds like a future blog post). I’m very thankful for where this blog has taken me and I always celebrate every blog anniversary with food. To continue my yearly tradition I wanted something that I have not done in the past. I needed five of some type of food that would look great in a photo and something we would enjoy eating. So here’s what I came up with: five scoops of gelato stacked high. The results were better than what I imagined. Plus, it’s something fun to celebrate my actual birthday!   click to enlarge Celebrating in this unique …

Eating International on Orlando’s International Drive – A Podcast with The Travel Bite

International Drive is home to some of Orlando’s most authentic hidden gems and I share those restaurants on a Podcast with travel blogger, Rachelle Lucas of The Travel Bite. Listen in as we chat about eating international cuisines from around the world on International Drive and a few other neighborhoods around Orlando, FL. Most of these restaurants mentioned in the Podcast are locally owned and eating local is the best way to support local business! We sat down for a meal at Nile Ethiopian Restaurant, practiced the traditional way of eating Ethiopian cuisine with only your hands, and experienced a coffee ceremony where they roast the coffee in front of you. Hear the sounds of the coffee popping like popcorn in the Podcast and listen to me geek out about international food. From Japanese to Brazilian cuisine, Russian and Koser restaurants with their own market next door, and a few food trucks, I even share where to find Chinese Peruvian in Orlando. Click play above to listen on how to find the different types of …

The Raglan Road Trip to Ireland was an amazing experience with many great moments to share. Our group of travelers consisted of five Raglan Road Master Chef Cooking Contest winners, plus members of the media to capture moments of the trip. Swine & Sons Provisions is the newest concept from the Swine Family Restaurant Group, from James and Julie Petrakis, chefs and owners of The Ravenous Pig and Cask & Larder. Maihiro Team Interview On Art, Food, and Papabubble Candy Collaboration

I’m a big fan of art and obviously anything food. I really enjoy seeing when those two worlds combine, so I interviewed a team of two local Orlando artists, Nakanari and Soujohn of Maihiro Team, who have collaborated with the Papabubble LA candy company to create a unique hard candy featuring their art. The candy features the “Spiki Ninja”, one of Maihiro’s characters that is an original design by Nakanari. The Spiki Ninja is in each piece of candy with the flavor of Lychee fruit.   (click image to enlarge) Lychee flavored Papabubble candy with Spiki design by Maihiro Team – Order HERE   Creating the candy itself is an art and incorporating the Spiki Ninja into the candy is done well. The hand-crafted candy does taste like Lychee and not overly sweet. The visual and taste in these hard candies is truly a double dose of art. Watch the video below to see what drives the Maihiro Team to create, how food and art inspire each other, and learn more about the artist themselves… …
