Five Orlando Restaurants with Valentine’s Day Prix Fixe Menus To Experience

Finding a special and unique dining experience to celebrate Valentine’s Day in Orlando can sometimes be a challenge. My suggestion is to check out prix fixe menus that are specials for Valentine’s Day. There’s usually a special dish or a variety of tastings that are good to try. I’m sure there’s a few of you out there that are still looking for a place to celebrate Valentine’s Day, so here’s five restaurants with a few prix fixe menu options that could be great for that special evening on February 14th. Morimoto Asia   click to enlarge Morimoto Asia at Disney Springs offers two set menus: The “Valentine’s couple prix fixe dinner” actually starts today, Feb. 12th and runs until Sunday, Feb 14th for $85 per person. Nothing wrong with celebrating early and avoiding the crowds on actual Valetine’s Day! click to see entire menu:   Morimoto Asia also offers a “Valentines Couple Omakase Dinner” for two at the sushi bar only, available only on Feb. 14th for $150 per person. Droolius’ Top 7 Favorites of January 2016

I wanted to start a new blog series this year and thought that a monthly Top 7 Favorites of what I ate was a good start. Why Top 7? Mainly because it’s hard to just choose my favorite 5 dishes for the month and 10 dishes might be too much. So, Top 7 it is! This month I spent the entire time in Atlanta, the city where I’m working now. I’ve been going back and forth between Orlando and Atlanta in the past few months, so I’m getting to explore food in both cities. Here’s my favorite dishes from January, in the order of when the food was eaten, not by rank.   click to enlarge Cheeseburger and fries at Holeman and Finch Public House, Atlanta, GA This was my first time having the infamous Holeman and Finch cheeseburger at the actual restaurant and it was very impressive. I ate it first at Burger Bash during South Beach Wine & Food Festival in 2014, then at H&F Burger at Ponce City Market last year. Both …

Shake Shack Debuts The Chick’n Shack Sandwich Today Nationwide

Exciting news from ShakeShack today as they are debuting their new chicken sandwich and it’s called the Chick’n Shack. The Chick’n Shack is a crispy chicken breast (100% all-natural and antibiotic-free) with lettuce, pickles, buttermilk herb mayo (chives, parsley and thyme) and served on a potato roll.   (Image courtesy of Shake Shack) The description sounds so good and I’m looking forward to trying it. I remember seeing this on social media last summer being served at their Brooklyn locations and wondered if and when it would be released to the rest of us. The good news is the Chick’n Shack is available nationwide today (except for NYC’s Theater District Shack, JFK Airport Shacks and stadium Shacks, according to Shake Shack). Check out all of the info on Shake Shack about the Chick’n Shack and its concept on Shake Shack’s website. What do you think about Shake Shack launching their own Chicken Sandwich? Are you planning try this today? Let me know what you think of it in the comments below.  Shake Shackwww.shakeshack.com Facebook Page …

Droolius’ Top 25 Food & Most Memorable Meals in 2015

Keeping up with my yearly tradition, this is my Top 25 list of food and most memorable meals in 2015. The year flew by and switching from freelance work to being in the office definitely was a change for me and limited my time for culinary travel. I was still able to travel a little, visiting Atlanta, Las Vegas, and Miami, along with my first trip to Ireland. My trip to the Philippines was a short one for a family emergency. Regardless, I made the best of each travel opportunity and my favorite meals are listed below. Note: Photos are in the order of when the food was eaten, not by rank.   (click image to enlarge) • Uni, toro tuna, and more uni at Sushi & Seoul on the Roll food truck. I started 2015 by eating once a week at the Sushi & Seoul on the Roll food truck, which was parked on Monday nights at The Imperial at Washburn Imports (Lake Ivanhoe area) in Orlando, FL. This was Chef Al’s “creative night” …

Droolius 5 Year Blog Anniversary

It’s hard to believe that I started this food blog five years ago and it has been quite the experience in eating food, traveling for food, and learning about food in different cultures. From watching subtitled episodes of Iron Chef in Japan to various cooking shows and chef competitions, I’ve been able to discover the food I’ve seen on TV, travel to some of the destinations, and even meet some of my food heroes (that sounds like a future blog post). I’m very thankful for where this blog has taken me and I always celebrate every blog anniversary with food. To continue my yearly tradition I wanted something that I have not done in the past. I needed five of some type of food that would look great in a photo and something we would enjoy eating. So here’s what I came up with: five scoops of gelato stacked high. The results were better than what I imagined. Plus, it’s something fun to celebrate my actual birthday!   click to enlarge Celebrating in this unique …

Eating International on Orlando’s International Drive – A Podcast with The Travel Bite

International Drive is home to some of Orlando’s most authentic hidden gems and I share those restaurants on a Podcast with travel blogger, Rachelle Lucas of The Travel Bite. Listen in as we chat about eating international cuisines from around the world on International Drive and a few other neighborhoods around Orlando, FL. Most of these restaurants mentioned in the Podcast are locally owned and eating local is the best way to support local business! We sat down for a meal at Nile Ethiopian Restaurant, practiced the traditional way of eating Ethiopian cuisine with only your hands, and experienced a coffee ceremony where they roast the coffee in front of you. Hear the sounds of the coffee popping like popcorn in the Podcast and listen to me geek out about international food. From Japanese to Brazilian cuisine, Russian and Koser restaurants with their own market next door, and a few food trucks, I even share where to find Chinese Peruvian in Orlando. Click play above to listen on how to find the different types of …

Kappo at East End Market Is Still Going Strong!

Kappo at East End Market has been leading the charge and standing their ground on the way they serve their food and with respect to their cuisine. Recently they have been told by the Orlando DBPR to install a sneeze guard, which does not make sense due to the fact the are not a salad bar and many restaurants in Orlando do not have a sneeze guard which could be considered to have a similar set up to Kappo. Regardless on what has gone down so far, many people in Orlando are in support of Kappo and have signed a petition on Change.org to show their support with 2000+ signatures. Needless to say, lots of people in Central Florida want Kappo to continue the way they are serving. Kappo will continue to serve and we’ll see what solution they come up with working with the Orlando DBPR. I’m proud of what the chefs at Kappo have accomplished and stood up for themselves to make a difference. Support them and continue to dine with them! Kappo …

For food, special anniversary dinners are being offered at Ravello and Capa with pre fixe menus. If you have not had a chance to dine here, this is a good opportunity to try them out. My experiences at both restaurants have been great food and service. There are lots of great views at this resort and plenty of photos can be seen from last year’s preview event: Four Seasons Orlando Resort at Walt Disney World – Sneak Peek Photo Preview   (click image to enlarge) The resort has a few awards to celebrate, which includes receiving the coveted AAA Five Diamond Award ranking for the second year in a row and still the first and only resort in Central Florida to receive this designation. Special Anniversary Dinners: (click image to enlarge) Special Anniversary Dinner at Ravello Enjoy a delicious three-course meal at the Resort’s Italian restaurant, …

Swine & Sons Provisions Opens In Winter Park, FL

Swine & Sons Provisions is the newest concept from the Swine Family Restaurant Group, from James and Julie Petrakis, chefs and owners of The Ravenous Pig and Cask & Larder. Chef James describes Swine & Sons as a “neighborhood deli meets grocery store” where almost everything is made in-house or locally produced. This space specializes in a number of food options including made-to-order butcher sandwiches, takeout charcuterie, signature spices and rubs, scratch-made biscuits, daily pastry offerings, seasonally inspired homemade ice cream and much more. It’s a place where patrons can take food to-go or dine-in at a communal table or casual seating. A daily “Blue Pig Specials” menu offers to-go dinners (about 30 plates a night) that will feature signature dishes or classics, like their buttermilk fried chicken, and be accompanied by a variety of scratch-made sides. Droolius.com back up and running…

For a little over a week Droolius.com has been down due to database issues in WordPress. There were issues I could not fix because I was busy at work (started a new job in the social media marketing industry recently) and I had very little time to diagnose the problem. After some trial and error, I finally found a fix this evening! So, the website is back up and lots of content to post from food events to restaurant discoveries are coming up. For now, enjoy this photo I took at lunch today. It’s the Shack Stack burger from Shake Shack in Winter Park, FL. You gotta love Florida winter days with bright sunshine and blue sky.   (click image to enlarge) Shack Stack burger at Shake Shack Winter Park – photo taken with iPhone 5s   Words and photos by Julius Mayo Jr. Content and photos © Droolius.com 2015
