Capture the Bite Food Photography Workshop at East End Market in Orlando (POSTPONED)

Food photography has been a big focus of this blog over the years and I’ve enjoyed speaking and teaching photography at various conferences in the past. I’m very excited to announce that we’re throwing our next Capture the Bite food photography workshop NOW TO BE DETERMINED this November 16-18, 2018 at East End Market in Orlando, FL! We will be covering food photography, food styling and of course eating good food. *EDIT: Capture the Bite Orlando has been postponed to a later date next year in 2019. Due to a combination of scheduling conflicts with interested attendees and being close to the Thanksgiving holiday has made us move the date to accommodate those interested. We will announce a new date, so please stay posted. Thank you for understanding!(updated on Monday, October 15, 2018) I’m teaming up with my friend and photographer colleague, Faith Gorsky of anediblemosaic.com who is a talented cookbook author, food stylist and photographer to host this event. Droolius 5 Year Blog Anniversary

It’s hard to believe that I started this food blog five years ago and it has been quite the experience in eating food, traveling for food, and learning about food in different cultures. From watching subtitled episodes of Iron Chef in Japan to various cooking shows and chef competitions, I’ve been able to discover the food I’ve seen on TV, travel to some of the destinations, and even meet some of my food heroes (that sounds like a future blog post). I’m very thankful for where this blog has taken me and I always celebrate every blog anniversary with food. To continue my yearly tradition I wanted something that I have not done in the past. I needed five of some type of food that would look great in a photo and something we would enjoy eating. So here’s what I came up with: five scoops of gelato stacked high. The results were better than what I imagined. Plus, it’s something fun to celebrate my actual birthday!   click to enlarge Celebrating in this unique …

Droolius Travels – Las Vegas: Restaurants, SEMA, World Food Championships, Bars, & Anthony Bourdain

It’s been four years since I’ve traveled to Las Vegas. While I found a lot of the city to be the same, much has been added on the Vegas strip as far as signs, resorts and casinos. The food is ever changing in this city, as chefs come in with their restaurant concepts and more locally owned restaurants continue to pop up. I spent one week in Las Vegas, attending the SEMA auto show, working as a photographer for the World Food Championships, and eating in restaurants in between. Towards the end of the trip, I found out that Anthony Bourdain was in town filming a live segment called Last Bite for the season finale of his CNN show, Parts Unknown. I stopped by that too and took some behind the scenes photos. You will find those at the end of this post.    Prior to having a food blog, I used to travel to Las Vegas a few times a year and had a few favorites for food in the area. Coming back this …

Chef Richard Blais with evian Instagram Takeover #evianeats at SOBEWFF 2013

Chef Richard Blais joined evian for an Instagram takeover at the Grand Tasting Village during the South Beach Wine and Food Festival. During this two day takeover, Chef Blais captured his moments “through the lens of a chef” as he experienced SOBEWFF and uploaded them onto the @evianwater Instagram for viewers to see. I was invited by evian to join them for some behind-the-scenes action while Richard Blais took his chef inspired photos.    This was part of the #evianeats Foodie Photo Series, which included an interactive photo booth experience at a SOBEWFF Grand Tasting Tent. Chef Blais was also hanging out at the evian booth, taking photos with fans.    The evian booth provided a fun way for attendees to be interactive and take photos using props. The photos were uploaded by a user’s own Instagram account and by using the hashtag #evianeats, photos were printed live at the evian booth. The booth was a popular spot and the build was great. Incorporating a camera into the booth’s structure and having a flat screen …

National Hot Dog Day 2012 – Shake Shack Shack-cago Dog – Photo of the Day

In case you missed it, today was National Hot Dog Day 2012. Tons of photos were uploaded online of this popular food item in America. I posted this photo of a Shake Shack Shack-cago Dog and it received many likes on both the Droolius Instagram and Facebook page. With such a good response, I figured it was worthy of a Photo of the Day here on the blog. Interesting fact: Shake Shack’s history says it “sprouted from a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park in Manhattan.” I had no idea, I always assumed burgers, but Shake Shack knows hot dogs too.   (click image to enlarge) Shake Shack Shack-cago Dog – A Flat-Top dog, split and griddled crisp, with Rick’s Picks Shack relish, onion, cucumber, pickle, tomato, sport pepper, celery salt and mustard. Shake Shack is obviously famous for their …

Food Photography Tips + How To Edit & Share Food Photos

Earlier this week, the EatSt. blog from Foodnetwork Canada posted an article I wrote about food photography tips. Since I have never written a blog post about taking food photos on the Droolius site, I thought I would re-share the photography post and add an extra section specifically to this blog post. The tips here are for when you are out dining at a restaurant, at a food truck or food cart, or eating any where indoors or outside. Later, I added a BONUS section, where there’s a few tips on how to make your food photos pop by editing and then where to share food photos… Eat St. is a t.v. show that features food trucks/carts in North America Photography Tips For Amazing Food Pictures Taking food photos is one of my passions and I do it almost every day, for work or for fun, and before every meal. Working as a photographer I always carry a digital SLR camera & lens, a camera phone, and at times a point and shoot camera. The …

Droolius Food Blog 1 Year Anniversary

This past August 14th officially marked the 1 year anniversary of the Droolius Food Blog. What started out as a small project for myself has turned into a full-fledged website that keeps me busier than I ever expected. I’ve spent the past 2 weeks reflecting where this blog has gone, the photos taken, the places traveled to, every where I have eaten and shared with you all. It has been a fun experience to share the information and photos, and I hope everything has had a positive and helpful impact. I plan on continuing to work on this blog for the long haul and curious to see where it takes me, as a photographer, writer, blogger, and more. On the real, I just want to eat and take photos… (click image to enlarge) Blue Bird Bake Shop Strawberry cupcake – Strawberry cake with Strawberry buttercream icing. July Foodspotting Eat-Up Orlando at Steak & Salad Turkish Kitchen – Event Recap

The Orlando Foodspotting Eatup for July was held at Steak & Salad – Turkish Kitchen. The event was set for Saturday at 12 noon, so we could all take advantage of the available day light coming into the restaurant’s windows to take photos. The available sun light was a good opportunity so foodspotters could take photos of the restaurant’s visually appealing food and add to the visual food guide on Foodspotting.com (click image to enlarge) A sample of a colorful entree: Mixed & Match – Adana kebab and beef Shish kebab The lively colors of the food are one reason I wanted to have the this month’s FSEatup at Steak & Salad and another was to discover the range of flavors of Turkish cuisine, with its spices and ingredients. The group of foodspotters included foodies and food bloggers, who were all eager to order off the Turkish side of the menu and willing to share appetizers and sides. The restaurant does offer a steak and salad menu as well, but we came for the Turkish …

(click image to enlarge) The above photograph is where my passion for taking food photos was realized around 3 years ago. I was visiting San Francisco and we were at Fisherman’s Wharf doing the tourist thing, when a few of us decided to have lunch upstairs in one of the restaurants above where they have all the food stalls serving great seafood. I do not remember the restaurant’s name but I remember the moment I took this picture and I had the Sea Bass on the menu. Back then I normally grabbed my point and shoot camera for food pics, …

Images of Food – NYC

Droolius.com – This website is about photographing food, the droolius images of food and sharing food images with the world. What better place to explore and photograph food than New York City? NYC is a food lover’s dream, packed with foodies taking pictures of delicious food, ready to upload on facebook , twitter, & blogs. I am guilty of this, but its only sharing the love of food with friends and everyone. That’s the great thing about food images, everyone can some how relate when they see food in pictures, it sparks feelings, memories, cravings, and even plans to travel to new lands to discover food. This was not my intention on this trip to NYC, but it soon became my own food adventure where I spent lots of time discovering new places to eat, and taking pictures at 95% of the places where I ate. Its been a few years since I’ve visited NYC, fortunately this trip I stayed with a friend who lived close and within walking distance to the East Village (I …
