Droolius’ Top 25 Food & Most Memorable Meals In 2014

In 2014 I spent a lot of time traveling and discovering food around the U.S. and internationally to the Philippines and Japan. This culinary travel has led me to find new food around the globe and in keeping with tradition, I’m sharing my best food memories in 2014. My two previous lists, Top 25 Most Memorable Food in 2012 and Top 25 Food & Most Memorable Meals in 2013, were focused on East coast U.S. destinations, with some West coast and a few international trips in North America. For my Top 25 of 2014, it was challenging to decide the top food because there were so many exceptional things that I ate while traveling for six weeks in Asia, with more West coast trips this year and traveling around the Southeast of United States. First Kamayan Filipino Feast In Orlando

The Kamayan Filipino feast was the first of its kind in a public dinner setting in Orlando, FL. Kamayan is the traditional practice of eating Filipino food with your bare hands and usually practiced at home. We wanted to bring that experience for people to try while discovering Filipino cuisine. Over 40 seats were sold to this ticketed dinner event at the East End Market, taking place upstairs at the event hall and demonstration kitchen. The special pop-up dinner was definitely a collaborative event and took a group who was passionate about Filipino cuisine and culture to make it happen. The trifecta from Kappo at East End Market, Francis Biondi (FOX’s MasterChef Season 5), Jami of FilipinoDinner.com, Jonjie Sibayan and crew from Pao Cafe in Tampa, and myself, all pitched in to make it happen.   (click image to enlarge) Green banana leaves were freshly cut the morning of the event, cleaned up, then were placed as the tablesetting for the dinner. Kamayan: A Filipino Feast On September 22 at East End Market in Orlando

Get ready to eat Filipino food at Kamayan: A Filipino Feast, a special dining event on September 22 in Orlando, FL. Kamayan is the Filipino traditional style of eating with your hands at a communal table, lined with banana leaves and the food is the center piece. The Kamayan feast will be prepared by Filipino chefs and cooks including the talented culinary team at Kappo at East End Market, Francis Biondi (FOX’s MasterChef Season 5 Top 15 Finalist), Jonjie Sibayan (chef/owner of PAO Truck/PAO Cafe in Tampa), and more. I’m proud to say that I am also participating in this event, doing some kitchen work and will be one of the front of the house hosting at the event.
