Urbain 40 American Brasserie & Lounge in Orlando, FL

Urbain 40 American Brasserie is one of the newest restaurants in Orlando and it has quickly made its mark to be one of the new must-try dining destinations in the area. The theme of Urbain 40 is the 1940’s era, from the atmosphere to the hand-crafted cocktails, with live music from the Big Band era being performed. The interior is classy, the ambiance is approachable and welcoming, and it gives a nod to Florida in the decor. The food is American cuisine with French influences by Chef Jean-Stephane Poinard, a native of Lyon, France. The menu features a range of meat and seafood dishes, with lunch and dinner currently being offered. A brunch and late night menu are in the works.   (click image to enlarge) I attended a dinner with a group of local media and experienced some of the cocktails, food, and entertainment. The cocktails were refreshing and the dessert alone would be worth visiting for. Each plate of food had good savory flavors, very balanced, with a touch of finesse. I took …

Wine Spectator’s Trade Day SOBEWFF 2013

The Wine Spectators Trade Day is an invitation only event that offers attendees a taste of wines, spirits, and an inside look on new trends in beverage. I was invited by KitchenAid to attend this event, which was held in the heart of South Beach at the Whole Foods Market Grand Tasting Village. Basically it’s a sneak peek of the Grand Tasting experience, but with more focus on wine and spirits, limited food offerings, and without the chef cooking demos. I was able to experience the food and did my share of sampling beverages throughout the event.   (click image to enlarge) As with any SOBEWFF event, it’s best to arrive early because there are long lines to get into most events. Being a trade “invite only” event, I didn’t expect there to be a massive crowd in attendance. This was my first Wine Spectator’s Trade Day, so lesson learned. The line went down the beach, but when the gates opened, it was only a few minutes to get in. Either get there early and …

Moët Hennessy’s The Q at SOBEWFF – Event Recap

The South Beach Wine and Food Festival kicked off the 2013 event weekend with Moët Hennessy’s “The Q” hosted by Paula Deen. The evening event featured live entertainment with wine and spirits from the Moët Hennessy portfolio, along with small plates from several Food Network chefs, celebrity chefs, and local Florida chefs. Attendees had a chance to sample barbecue themed dishes by an esteemed group of chefs and dishes were judged for awards. Taking top honors were Chef Todd English with The Omaha Steaks Award for Culinary Excellence, while Chef Jonathan Waxman was crowned the Kingsford Charcoal King of Q. I tried both dishes and they were excellent.   (click image to enlarge) The Q was presented by Omaha Steaks and there was a lot of meat being served; meat that was properly cooked (medium rare!) and I was enjoying every bite. There were a range of dishes offered and many chefs were present to serve them at each serving station. Chefs Richard Irvine, April Bloomfield, and Tim Love were a few that I spotted …
