Droolius 8 Year Blog Anniversary & Celebrating with Sushi Donuts

The middle of August marked the 8 year blog anniversary. I started to celebrate this anniversary with a giveaway, but I also had to keep up the tradition and celebrate with food. What better way than to celebrate with 8 mini sushi donuts? Poke Burri in Atlanta, GA makes some of the most creative sushi items and they have done it again with mini sushi donuts. I’ve featured a regular sized sushi donut before, but these minis are easier to eat and as my fiancé says, “too cute” not to share. The variety of toppings and sauces compliment the slices of tuna, salmon and spicy tuna. These mini sushi donuts are a specialty item and need to be ordered in advanced. Order ahead by sliding in the @PokeBurri DM’s and sending a message with your order. The Orlando restaurant scene just stepped up its game with the grand opening of Morimoto Asia at Disney Springs. Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto is evolving his skills as a restaurateur by opening his first pan-Asian dining experience at Morimoto Asia. This restaurant concept is a collaboration between Chef Morimoto and the Patina Restaurant Group, showcasing flavors from across Asia with an emphasis on China, Japan, Korea, and Thailand.   (click image to enlarge) Our resident videographer, Thomas Babiarz of TomimotoFilms, attended the event for us and took some great photos and even created an awesome video of the opening event. Watch Chef Morimoto sing a song, break down an entire tuna, and create a 60 foot maki sushi roll with media attendees.  Words and video by Thomas BabiarzPhotos by Chavy Babiarz Video: Video by TomimotoFilms   Link to video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/0thHdZe2B7k On September 29th, Masaharu Morimoto opened the doors of his newest culinary adventure, Morimoto Asia, for a special media preview. Fish Out of Water Sushi Truck – New Orlando Food Truck

The Fish Out of Water Sushi Truck is one of newest gourmet food trucks to hit the streets of Orlando. I have been looking forward to trying their food ever since I heard about the sushi truck’s development. The concept of having sushi served from a food truck really peeked my interest. I thought this could work as long as you had the proper build of the truck to keep everything cold and fresh, with a sushi chef that could create a great menu and be able to execute it well. After visiting the sushi truck this past weekend, I’d say this new food truck has reached my expectations, and continues to push forward with focusing on a quality product.   (click image to enlarge) I met the owner a few months back and he was telling me about his food truck concept and the sushi he was planning to serve. After chatting for a while, I could hear his experience in both the restaurant business and sushi itself. His plans were focusing on properly …

Photo of the Day Monday – MoonFish Happy Hour Oysters – Orlando, FL

Happy Hour deals are a great way to sample a more upscale restaurant at a bargain price. MoonFish in Orlando, FL is a seafood house that repeatedly receives top honor awards year after year, in the U.S. for its food and service, which can be a tad pricey for the typical foodie. So a great introduction to their menu is during a Happy Hour special where you can get great deals on oysters and sushi, along with a few more appetizers and drinks. (click image to enlarge) The Happy Hour at MoonFish is available Monday through Saturday from 4:30pm-6:30pm in the Bar and Lounge, dine-in only. They offer raw oysters for 35 cents a piece and wood grilled oysters for a slightly higher price. That is a tremendous deal only offered during their special Happy Hour because the oysters are priced at a premium during normal dining hours in the main dining room. These are very fresh and clean tasting quality oysters and I do not think you can find a better deal anywhere else. …

Photo of the Day Monday – Tuna Kobachi – Jade Bistro

One of my favorite places for sushi in Orlando, FL is Jade Bistro. The fish is always fresh and they use quality ingredients in all their dishes and sushi creations. Today the Photo of the Day Monday is Tuna Kobachi at Jade Bistro. Just one of many Sushi & Sashimi Appetizers that they offer. (click image to enlarge) Tuna Kobachi Diced tuna with spicy sesame oil and pepper sauce (Sriracha) Fresh red tuna is diced into cubes then put into a combination of spices, spicy sesame oil, and Sriracha. The combination of quality sushi grade tuna and ingredients creates a fresh tasting appetizer with a little bit of heat. If you like to order tuna when you go out for sushi, give this one a try at Jade Bistro. This is one of the appetizers I always order and then I have my favorite sushi rolls, the Jade Roll and Cherry Blossom. Jade Bistro not only has sushi, but also offers an appetizing Asian Fusion menu, a classic Chinese menu, and an array of appetizers, …

Fuji Sushi Buffet – Elk Grove, CA

An all you can eat sushi buffet is not the place you always expect to find high quality food. This being America where more is better, places tend to shy on the quality. Well to my surprise the Fuji Sushi Buffet in Elk Grove, CA had good quality sushi grade fish and other great items. The first indicator should have been the long line that formed prior to opening. We were near the front of the line on a Sunday morning and almost at opening at 11am the line was half way around the building. (click image to enlarge) My best friend who went to culinary school swore this place was good. I admit I had my doubts because quality of fish is a key importance to me and having eaten sushi around the world and tasting freshness of quality in places in Japan, Hawaii, and around U.S. I have a developed palate I’d like to think. But him being a trained culinary professional I went in with good hopes and all I can say …
