The Jamaica Food & Drink Festival Highlights Vibrant Culinary Scene in Kingston

In October 2017, I was invited to attend the Jamaican Food & Drink Festival in Kingston, Jamaica. For over a week, the vibrant culinary scene was celebrated at the Jamaican Food & Drink Festival which took place from October 21 to 29 with seven world class food events at seven iconic venues around Kingston. More than 45 talented chefs participated and cooked at this multi-location festival, highlighting local ingredients and Jamaican cuisine. I traveled to Kingston, Jamaica for my first time. Lucky for me, Delta Air Lines had a direct flight from Atlanta to Kingston, so it was an easy trip to make. The first two festival events were Porkpalooza and Chopstix, which took place before I was able to travel. I did attend the last 3 days of the festival to experience Crisp, Picante and Meet Street & The Market events. These were all delicious culinary experiences, showcasing the fusion of diverse cultures and the deep roots of food in Jamaica. From the flavorful food to the fun vibe of each event, the drinks …

Hanson’s Mmmhops Craft Beer Debuts At Epcot Food & Wine Festival – Video Interview

Hanson, the popular music band from the 90’s, has created their own Mmmhops Pale Ale beer and debuted it at this year’s 2014 Epcot Food & Wine Festival. The craft beer is named after their hit song, “MMMBop” and is brewed at their Hanson Brothers Beer Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This is the first time Mmmhops is available in Florida and the craft beer can be found at the Epcot’s Festival Center. Hanson recently presented Mmmhops at a beverage seminar at the Festival Center to an excited crowd of fans.   (click image to enlarge) The beverage seminar was a talk on how the brothers came up with the beer idea and how they designed this beer to be an introduction to drinking a hoppy beer. The goal was to make it a drinkable full bodied beer with a hoppy flavor, but not go overboard with a hoppy bitter flavor. They were very knowledgable talking about craft beers and brewing, dropping some beer knowledge to the crowd, while keeping it entertaining for the fans. An …

Experiencing the Ocean Spray Cranberry Bog at 2013 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

The Ocean Spray Cranberry Bog Exhibit has returned once again to the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. To celebrate the Cranberry Bog, Ocean Spray hosted a private event for media, giving us a taste of dishes created with Ocean Spray Craisins and an opportunity for us to get into the bog. This was the only chance to actually get into the cranberry bog during the festival, so here’s my experience to share with you all.   (click image to enlarge) The Ocean Spray Cranberry bog is located near the entrance of Epcot’s World Showcase.   (click image to enlarge) A rack of waders are hanging, waiting for us to put them on and wade through the cranberry bog.   (click image to enlarge) Keeping with the theme of Epcot Food & Wine Festival, Ocean Spray presented a passport of flavors with tables representing cuisines inspired by different countries and using the Craisin in dishes. The Disney chefs got really creative and found some very unique ways to cook with the Craisins.   (click image …

Wine Spectator’s Trade Day SOBEWFF 2013

The Wine Spectators Trade Day is an invitation only event that offers attendees a taste of wines, spirits, and an inside look on new trends in beverage. I was invited by KitchenAid to attend this event, which was held in the heart of South Beach at the Whole Foods Market Grand Tasting Village. Basically it’s a sneak peek of the Grand Tasting experience, but with more focus on wine and spirits, limited food offerings, and without the chef cooking demos. I was able to experience the food and did my share of sampling beverages throughout the event.   (click image to enlarge) As with any SOBEWFF event, it’s best to arrive early because there are long lines to get into most events. Being a trade “invite only” event, I didn’t expect there to be a massive crowd in attendance. This was my first Wine Spectator’s Trade Day, so lesson learned. The line went down the beach, but when the gates opened, it was only a few minutes to get in. Either get there early and …

Garden To Glass at SOBEWFF – Event Recap

The Garden to Glass party was hosted by Emeril Lagase and took place at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. The event focused on mixologist creations, many that included using fresh herbs from the garden. The late night party featured cocktails from the master mixology of bartenders from Bar Lab, while Miami restaurant My Ceviche was serving small bites. Emeril was seen mixing up a signature cocktail and serving them to the crowd. The cocktails were flowing and the DJ had the crowd dancing until about 1am. It was a classy after party following a full day of events at South Beach Wine and Food Festival.   (click image to enlarge) I actually was able to attend this party by my friend and fellow food blogger, Julie of TheLittleKitchen, winning an online contest for a pair of tickets. By searching hashtag #sobewff in Instagram, she saw Zignum Mezcal posted a Facebook contest for 2 people to win tickets to the Garden to Glass party. The contest was “Tell us why you and your drinking buddy should …

Moët Hennessy’s The Q at SOBEWFF – Event Recap

The South Beach Wine and Food Festival kicked off the 2013 event weekend with Moët Hennessy’s “The Q” hosted by Paula Deen. The evening event featured live entertainment with wine and spirits from the Moët Hennessy portfolio, along with small plates from several Food Network chefs, celebrity chefs, and local Florida chefs. Attendees had a chance to sample barbecue themed dishes by an esteemed group of chefs and dishes were judged for awards. Taking top honors were Chef Todd English with The Omaha Steaks Award for Culinary Excellence, while Chef Jonathan Waxman was crowned the Kingsford Charcoal King of Q. I tried both dishes and they were excellent.   (click image to enlarge) The Q was presented by Omaha Steaks and there was a lot of meat being served; meat that was properly cooked (medium rare!) and I was enjoying every bite. There were a range of dishes offered and many chefs were present to serve them at each serving station. Chefs Richard Irvine, April Bloomfield, and Tim Love were a few that I spotted …

Food & Wine at Portofino 2012 – Event Photos & Recap

Food, wine, and exotic cars. An exciting combination for the culinary evening and part of the Annual Celebration Exotic Car Festival. This year’s Food & Wine at Portofino was a new location to the yearly event. The move to an outdoors event turned out to be a beautiful scenery in the courtyard of the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, at Universal Orlando. The location had a nice ambiance, highlighting the cars, the chefs, the food, and entertainment. There were many dishes and drinks to taste, however I was not able to try all of them. Even if I was not busy taking photos of the event, not sure how far I would get in tasting each dish. Here’s most of the dishes I tasted and the photos I captured…   (click image to enlarge) The start of the Food & Wine at Portofino 2012, the crowd was just starting to enter the event.   (click image to enlarge) Each restaurant or chef had a table serving their dishes, with a few exotic cars around. South Beach Wine & Food Festival 2012 “Trucks on the Beach” closing party – Event Recap

When I found out there was going to be a food truck event at the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival this year, I knew I had to go. It was my first time making plans to attend the festival and since I was not able to get down to Miami until the end of the weekend, I missed most of the festival’s food, Burger Bash 2012, chef demonstrations, and a lot more. My schedule did work out perfectly to attend the “Trucks on the Beach” closing party hosted by Andrew Zimmern, so it was the event that I was meant to be at.   (click image to enlarge) The “Trucks on the Beach” closing party had 20 food trucks total, 18 from Miami, one from New York City and one from Orlando. They were hand selected by a team from Food Network and festival coordinators. Each food truck served dishes that would give attendees a bite of their food trucks’ style of food. There was also a contest for “Best Food Truck” …

C&S Brisket Bus Sliders at upcoming Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival 2012

It’s coming, brisket on the beach! The popular Orlando food truck C&S Brisket Bus will be heading down to Miami’s South Beach to serve their sliders and more sandwiches at the closing party for the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival 2012. The festival runs from February 23-26 and C&S Brisket Bus will be joining more gourmet food trucks on Feb. 26th at The Official Festival Closing Party “Trucks on the Beach” hosted by Andrew Zimmern.  (click image to enlarge) The event will feature food from a number of Miami food trucks and food carts, with the C&S Brisket Bus solely representing Orlando. This is a sneak peak on one of the menu items they plan to serve during the festival’s closing party. The Brisket Bus team decided on serving 2 sliders as samples of their popular sandwiches, The Rachel and The Reuben. I got a taste of the slider duo during a recent event and it is a perfect bite to sample both sandwiches. The meat to bread ratio is on point, …
