Droolius 4 Year Blog Anniversary

Another year of food blogging is in the history books and today is the Droolius 4 year blog anniversary. Many things to be grateful for and I’ve enjoyed sharing my food travels with you all. Food and travel from L.A. to Manila to Tokyo, lots of food photos and travel stories to still share here. I’m always sharing the food on the @Droolius Instagram for daily updates, so find me there if there is a slow down on the blog. I celebrate every blogiversary with food and this year I wanted to make it even more epic. I went to one of my favorite places to eat, the new Shake Shack in Winter Park, and ordered what I call a “SmokeShack Quad Burger”:   (click image to enlarge) The “SmokeShack Quad Burger” is a custom order that is a SmokeShack burger (cheeseburger topped with applewood smoked bacon, chopped cherry pepper and ShackSauce) but with four meat and four cheese, all under one bun. It was a lot of meaty and cheesy flavor, and I enjoyed …

Droolius Travels – Las Vegas: Restaurants, SEMA, World Food Championships, Bars, & Anthony Bourdain

It’s been four years since I’ve traveled to Las Vegas. While I found a lot of the city to be the same, much has been added on the Vegas strip as far as signs, resorts and casinos. The food is ever changing in this city, as chefs come in with their restaurant concepts and more locally owned restaurants continue to pop up. I spent one week in Las Vegas, attending the SEMA auto show, working as a photographer for the World Food Championships, and eating in restaurants in between. Towards the end of the trip, I found out that Anthony Bourdain was in town filming a live segment called Last Bite for the season finale of his CNN show, Parts Unknown. I stopped by that too and took some behind the scenes photos. You will find those at the end of this post.    Prior to having a food blog, I used to travel to Las Vegas a few times a year and had a few favorites for food in the area. Coming back this …

Droolius 3 Year Blog Anniversary

Today marks the 3 year anniversary of the Droolius Blog. The simple food blog project that I started to display my photography and to share my love for food, has turned into a brand that I am very proud of. I’ve been blessed with some great opportunities from collaborating with people who love food to interviewing some of my favorite chefs and meeting some of the people I respect in the culinary world. So many reasons to celebrate today and I’ve received lots of encouragement via social media to eat some doughnuts.   (click image to enlarge) Today is also my birthday and I officially launched the blog on this day, way back when, to help spread the word about my project. So there’s two specific reasons to celebrate today and what better way than with doughnuts and some bacon. Up above are my favorite doughnuts from Donut King and those who have eaten these know why I love them so much. Thank you all for reading the blog and viewing the photos. I hope …

Burgers at That One Spot – Ocoee, FL

Today is the start of National Hamburger Month, a time dedicated to celebrating one of America’s most iconic food items. I will be featuring a of series burgers throughout the month of May, some from cities around Florida and a few from other states. To kick off this series, I’ll start with one of my newest favorite places in Central Florida, That One Spot in Ocoee, FL. A fairly new restaurant to the area, this place is dedicated to burgers and burger-like sandwiches.   (click image to enlarge) The menu features beef burgers, salads, sides, and more burgers with options like veggie, grilled chicken, turkey and even a herb crusted salmon. One of the side dishes that you must order is the mac & cheese, a recipe that has been handed down from one of the owner’s grandmothers. They make a variety of sauces for dipping side items, like fries. This post is a compilation of several trips to That One Spot. My first trip here was earlier this year and when I first walked …

Add more bacon, please! C&S Brisket Bus Pulled BBQ Sandwich – Photo of the Day

This past Friday I was really on a bacon kick. It’s not often that I will cook bacon at home for breakfast, then eat a donut topped with bacon, and then finish the day with dinner which includes more bacon. If you follow me on Instagram, you saw my plate featuring bacon, with fried eggs cooked in bacon drippings, and sauteed spinach. Then on my Foodspotting, I posted a maple bacon bar (donut) from Donut King. I completed my day with attending a food truck event and ordered a sandwich from the C&S Brisket Bus food truck. My order started with “Do you have any more bacon?” and “Which sandwich will it go best with?”. Luckily the Brisket Bus had a few pieces left of their house-cured bacon to serve on what they recommended, the Pulled BBQ sandwich. After a few minutes passed, out comes this beautiful BBQ Sandwich, with a few slabs of bacon just glistening at me. First I thought, “WOW” (the people behind me said WOW), and I then proceeded with a …

Chocolate Covered Bacon by Peterbrooke Chocolatier of Winter Park, FL

Today’s post is more of a personal entry. It is my 34th birthday, and it also happens to be the two-year anniversary for the Droolius blog. While this post may not be entirely for the blog, it does relate to food. And by food, I mean bacon. Chocolate covered bacon! A few weeks ago, I sent out a Facebook update/tweet (on my personal accounts) saying “for my birthday I would like to eat 34 pieces of bacon”. I received many funny responses and lots of jokes from friends. A day or so later, I was contacted by my friends at Peterbrooke Chocolatier of Winter Park saying they wanted to send me something in the mail. I really didn’t think much of it, I was just thankful for the kind gesture.   (click image to enlarge) This past weekend I received a delivery from Peterbrooke Chocolatier. To my surprise, they sent me a gift basket of assorted chocolate sweets, and more importantly they sent me 34 pieces of bacon covered in chocolate! Needless to say I …

RECIPE: Baked Red Velvet Donuts with Candied Bacon Topping

I have always wanted to combine Red Velvet donuts with bacon for some reason. It’s not too much of a stretch. You can find chocolate covered bacon being sold, as well as bacon donuts, and they both seem to be a hit around the U.S. I’ve tasted both (individually) in the past and I must admit chocolate and bacon pair well together, and so does bacon and donuts. Since Red Velvet donuts are chocolate based, why not top it with candied bacon? It was an idea I just had to do and after doing some research on how to make donuts at home, I decided to go for it.   (click image to enlarge) Baked Red Velvet Donut with Candied Bacon I actually made these “bacon donuts” for the CFL Food Blogger Bake Sale last weekend, hoping the public would “get it” and enjoy these sweet and savory donuts. Everyone seemed to like the combination and I received positive feedback. I’ve received several tweets and a few emails about the recipe, so I’m posting …
