The California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort reopened this week on September 9th, showcasing a new look inside of the restaurant and an updated menu. Last week, the media had a chance to preview for the reimagined California Grill and the photos and a video are presented below. Since I was in Los Angeles on travel, I sent my friend and Droolius videographer, Thomas Babiarz, to cover the event. He took lots of great interior and food photos, and even compiled a short video to give you all a glimpse of what’s going on with the food and the chefs in action. Check out Thomas’ experience below, everything has me really excited to visit the California Grill on a future trip to Walt Disney World. – Julius aka Droolius

We were delighted to attend the special media event for the reimagineering of Disney’s California Grill. The physical remodel took nearly 7 months to complete, but the ideas and planning began almost 3 years ago. In true Disney fashion, we were greeted by a spectacular rainbow outside Disney’s Contemporary Resort. I suspect the Imagineers had that planned for us as well.

The new California Grill left us with an amazing impression. As you exit the elevator at the top of the Contemporary, your eyes are immediately drawn to the impressive collection of over 250 wines. After you gaze over the selection of wines, you are overtaken by the view as you turn to enter toward your table. The windows now span from top to bottom, revealing the perfect sunset over Cinderella’s Castle. When you finally take a moment to turn away from the magical panoramic views of the Magic Kingdom, you are immediately immersed into a perfect blend of modern and retro.

The sushi bar overlooks the open kitchen and includes distinct showcases that invite the guests to explore a fusion of culinary flavors. Another notable addition is the wood burning oven, allowing the chefs more versatility with their creations. Throughout the California Grill there are touches of bold color design such as the graphic carpets that were inspired by the works of the famed Disney artist, Mary Blair. We truly enjoyed the atmosphere of the reimagined California Grill, and the attention to detail continued from the architecture to the flavors and visuals of the cuisine. And now it’s time to share the heart of the California Grill…
