The Sweet Lobby

During my latest travel to our nation’s capital, Washington D.C., I had a lunch date with the D.C. FoodSpotting ambassador, @lisamathias. We ate @Graffiato, Top Chef Mike Isabella’s restaurant (check out my review on Yelp). When I asked Lisa where should I go to get some yummy macarons, she replied with no hesitation, “Sweet Lobby!”

So following the public health conference I was attending, I hopped on the Blue line Metro to the Eastern Market stop, and headed to the Sweet Lobby.
When I got there, I thought I died and went to macaron and cupcake heaven! I asked the lady behind the counter “which confectionery sells out the most here, macarons or cupcakes?” She said it is about 50:50! Making a mental note, I will have to come back and try their cupcakes!
So, the pictures featured in this guest blog are of the 16 macarons (a Barracks Row box) I brought back to @droolius so we can have a photo shoot and taste test.

The verdict: the Parisian macarons from Sweet Lobby have frangrant smells and very distinct flavors. The macarons taste sweeter than most macarons I have had and there is more of a candied outer shell.
My favorite macaron flavors from Sweet Lobby include the following: Lavender, Green Tea, Earl Grey, Passion Fruit, and PBnJ.

A few notable flavors and my descriptions:
– Lavender: a profound taste, and I actually felt more relaxed while eating it.
– Green Tea: definitely used Japanese matcha green tea powder in this macaron, my favorite antioxidant flavor.
– Red Hot Chili Chocolate: when you let this macaron linger on your tongue, the heat actually comes through.
– Pumpkin Sesame: this flavored macaron made me sneeze for some reason! And the ginger touch was very significant (I love ginger!).
– Chocolate Cassis: the flavor reminded me of the macarons from La Maison Du Chocolat
– PBnJ: one of my favorites out of the Barracks Row box and it honestly tasted like a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, in a small delectable form!

Overall, the macarons here are excellent. And @TheSweetLobby tweets their daily flavors on their Twitter page so you know which flavors to expect on a given day.
Sweet Lobby’s slogan is “The Ultimate Advocate For Your Sweet Tooth”. They definitely get my vote!

I just wanted to thank Droolius for letting me guest blog again on his site. I do not really have much time to keep up my own food blog so I appreciate the opportunity my big brother has given me!
So I’ve never had a macaroon, but now my level of expectation has risen considerably! Thank you for the yummy review, Jeweles. 😀
its a great dessert! It’s the next cupcake, there will be a crave nation wide about these
[…] There were 16 macaron flavors available and I was tempted to try most of them. Since this was my first visit where I actually ordered my own macarons, I opted for a box of 20. Previously I was gifted by and shared macarons with guest blogger @iEatsByJEWELeS from desserts shops from up North. You can read the macaron posts [Here] and [Here]. […]
